Cocoa Beach has earned a reputation as the "East Coast Surfing Capital" and the Westgate Cocoa Beach Pier has always served as the center of Central Florida surfing activity. Legendary surfers such as Todd Holland, Gary Propper, Dick Catri, Claude Codgen, Mike Tabeling, Bob Freeman, Bruce Valuzzi, the notorious Jack "Murph the Surf" Murphy and, of course, Cocoa Beach native and 11-time world champion Kelly Slater have all braved the waters here in search for the perfect wave. Spectators can view the surfers from the far end of the Pier at the Mai Tiki Bar. The Cocoa Beach Pier is also the site of the NKF Rich Salik Pro/Am Surfing Festival during Labor Day weekend.
